Cargill workers vote to end dispute at US beef plant
After nearly three months of a labor dispute, unionized workers at Cargill's beef-processing plant in Fort Morgan, Colorado, voted to approve a new contract and end the work stoppage. The dispute centered primarily on wages, with workers concerned about the proposed pay increases in the later years of the five-year agreement. About 1,700 employees had been without work after Cargill halted production at the facility in May. Workers are expected to return August 24, with production scheduled to resume in September, making this a significant example of a labor dispute being resolved through collective bargaining.
