1-Day Strike Hits UC Facilities
Service workers at twelve University of California sites staged a one day strike on Thursday causing reduced food service, deliveries and cleaning and maintenance. Employees have worked without a contract since January 31 and have not received a raise in two years. Administration officials agree that workers deserve a raise but say the University system can only offer raises totaling 8 percent over three years due to tight state budget constraints.
