10-year strike at Congress Plaza Hotel is over
The maintenance and cleaning workers union at a downtown Chicago hotel has agreed to an unconditional return to work after a decade long strike. Believed to be the longest hotel strike in the world, employees walked out of their jobs on June 3, 2003 in opposition to management?s plans to cut wages, freeze benefits, and undermine job security. Returning workers will be held to the terms of the expired contract, though many of the original 130 employees that went on strike have found alternative employment.
