$12 million verdict hits California prison guard union
A jury awarded over $12 million in damages to Corrections USA and two former prison guards, in a case alleging that the California Correctional Peace Officers Association took over Corrections USA, a prison guard association and bullied its members. An attorney for Corrections USA said that the outcome shows that the bullying is not acceptable. The California Correctional peace Officers Association says that it will appeal the outcome, saying that the charges are false and that they believe the case will be overturned. The union is also involved in a dispute with the governor over their contract, which they have been working without.
