$13.45-an-hour wage cleared for takeoff at O’Hare, Midway airports
Employees at O’Hare and Midway Airports celebrate the mayoral resolution to raise the minimum wage for contract employees at O’Hare and Midway Airports. The resolution, which was passed unanimously in a joint City Council committee last Wednesday despite airline objections, guarantees a minimum wage of $13.45-an-hour for almost 8,000 employees airport employees as well as guaranteeing their right to join unions and will take effect on July 1, 2018. In an interview, Service Employees International Union Local 1 president Tom Balanoff said that his union has been trying to unionize workers at O’Hare and he is confident that most if not all airline employees will choose to join a union.
