2 Democrats Back Boycott of Smithfield
Two Democrat District of Columbia Council members have joined with union representatives, religious leaders and other politicians in a boycott of Smithfield Foods, a major meat producer. Smithfield is charged with mistreating and dismissing workers who complained about job-related injuries at the company's North Carolina plant. The Council members are calling on people in Washington to boycott Smithfield products in an effort to pressure the company into letting workers unionize.
