3,000 postal workers march to protest cost-cutting moves
Around 3,000 American Postal Workers Union members protested a proposed cut of mail services in Detroit on Tuesday. The U.S. Postal Service has proposed cutting mail service down to five days a week in order to save money. The amount of mail that was delivered last year declined by more than 25 billion last year, and the Postal Service lost around $7 billion. The APWU President said that instead of cutting service, Congress should change a law that requires the Postal Service to pre-fund health care for future retirees. The Postal Service says that changing that one thing will not be enough to get the Postal Service into the black. many of the protesters are concerned about job loss if the cut happens. The APWU is holding its 20th Biennial National Convention this week.
