3M Cuts 1,800 Jobs and Lowers Forecast
Post-it Notes maker, the 3M Company, announced plans to slash another 1,800 jobs in light of falling profits and a weakening economic outlook. The company already eliminated 1,000 jobs at the end of September. The new layoffs are set to affect positions mostly in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan, with expected savings of $170 million. The firm has also indicated that further cuts to its international business may be necessary. 3M has also closed plants and limited inventory as part of greater cost-saving initiatives.
