4 out of 5 physician moms experience discrimination, survey finds
A survey done by the University of California San Francisco indicates that, of the almost 6,000 surveyed, 78 percent of female physicians have experienced workplace discrimination, with 66 percent of the group having experienced gender discrimination. Thirty-five percent experienced maternal discrimination, including difficulties with maternity leave and breast-feeding. Survey participants suggested increased schedule flexibility as the most desired improvement to protect gender equity amongst physicians. Past research has found that female physicians receive lower pay than their male counterparts, and are less likely to be promoted.
