777 School Employees Will Be Let Go, in the Largest Layoff Under Bloomberg
The New York City Department of Education will lay off 777 employees by October. The layoffs are a result of budget cuts to the schools. 95% of the workers who will be laid off are represented by District Council 37. The union said that the cuts would disproportionally affect low income districts. New York City has 1,114 teachers who are currently without permanent positions.
