800 workers being laid off at Watts Bar
The Tennessee Valley Authority and one of its contractors announced that they will be laying off 600 temporary construction workers and 200 support staff after progress on a construction project did not go as well as they expected. The TVA says that it is in talks with the contractor to complete construction, as well as control costs. The TVA employs about 2,500 workers. The project that was halted is a new reactor, and is expected to be finished in 2013, after being delayed a year.
