9 out of 10 CPS teachers authorize strike
Almost 90% of Chicago teachers have voted to authorize a strike, according to the Chicago Teachers Union. The union said that the vote was very indicative of how people feel about the Mayor and the administration of Chicago Public Schools. The vote comes as talks between the two sides make little progress, with issues around pay and linking performance to pay being sticking points. An arbitrator is currently reviewing both sides' offers, and is expected to give his recommendations in July. Chicago teachers have not struck since 1987.
