Recently, Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo drafted legislation to reform the education system. Within this, he asked for 100 new charter schools and the ability for those schools to take over public school systems. Supporters of charter schools rallied on Wednesday in Albany. They were met with resistance from the Teachers' Union who argued that charter schools take resources and space from the public schools.
