A state mediator will be brought into negotiations between Beaverton School District and teacher union
Negotiations between unionized teachers in the Beaverton School District in Oregon and school district administration have become tense, and state meditation has been requested. The Beaverton Education Association represents teachers, counselors, social workers, nurses, and other staff in the school district. The union is seeking wage increases, increased employee benefits, and better working conditions, especially improved temperature controls in classrooms. Several school districts around Oregon have faced similar issues regarding contract negotiations with unions. The two largest school districts in the state, Portland and Salem-Keizer, had negotiations involving state meditation. Negotiations between the Beaverton School District and the Beaverton Education Association began in February, and employees have been working without a contract since June, and are receiving the wages and benefits from the previous contract.
