Across the world, inflationary pressures and poor labor conditions cause workers to protest and rally on May Day
On Monday, massive demonstrations have been seen across Europe and Asia as discontented workers struggling with inflationary pressures have taken to the streets to protest. May Day is usually a celebration of workers rights, however, the compounding effects of the pandemic lockdown and cost of living crises due to high inflation have demonstrated workers' shared economic frustrations. There has been a larger turnout this year to many of the labor demonstrations in Asian cities compared to other years, as labor activists push for their governments to better support workers. Additionally, there have been tensions, large protests, and violence across France as unions and workers continue to push for President Macron to reverse the policy to raise the retirement age. Large demonstrations also took place in Turkey, Sri Lanka, Spain, South Korea, Tokyo, Germany, and various other places.
