Activists Skeptical of Thai Food Companies Labor Pledges
The I.L.O., U.N., and U.S. State Department all played a role in guiding the Thai Frozen Foods Association member companies to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) outlining minimum acceptable workplace standards. The list of standards included topics such as child labor, discrimination, forced labor, and safety. Some international organizations remain skeptical of the effectiveness of implementation, but all believe that the MOU is a step in the right direction. The companies of the Association supply many of the large supermarkets in the U.S. including Wal-Mart.
