Actors Hesitate on Strike Authorization
Several prominent SAG members, including Danny DeVito, his wife Rhea Perlman, Michard Masur, and Mike Farrell are publically urging members to vote "no" on the upcoming SAG strike authorization. Union leadership is campaigning to convince the membership otherwise ? a difficult task when the country faces a severe economic downturn, but perhaps the only way to realize contract demands in the halted negotiations with movie and television studios. SAG leaders are hoping to achieve more favorable terms on issues like streaming Internet video and DVD sales. Their campaign includes informational meetings, emails, videos, and advertisements all aimed at garnering support for a strike. The vote is expected to be close, and faces both opposition and support from throughout, and outside of, the entertainment industry.
