Actors Union, Studios Meet With Mediator on Contract Stalemate
Ending 5 months of silence, the Screen Actors Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers met with mediator Juan Carlos Gonzalez last night. The up until now impasse in negotiations stemmed from disagreement over pay for actors' work on the Internet. The union intends to obtain strike authorization if mediation attempts fail. SAG is the last of other Hollywood acting and writing unions to settle contract negotiations, but asserts that other agreements do not sufficiently benefit actors working on Internet projects.
