Adidas leads way as four companies win Stop Slavery Award
Adidas, the second biggest sportswear company in the world, has been honored with the second Thomson Reuters Foundation Stop Slavery Award, alongside The Co-operative Group, Intel, and C&A. The Stop Slavery Award was created by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2016 as a way to commemorate companies that work diligently to find and eradicate slave labor in their production processes. Given the surge in the availability of cheap, forced labor in countries with little to no workers’ rights enforcement and massive companies’ exploitation of these opportunities, slave labor has become harder and harder to regulate. The Stop Slavery Award attempts to highlight those companies which are leading the way in enforcing human rights within their business models, hopefully encouraging other companies in all industries to follow in this path.
