Adjustments in Air Canada’s service providers result in layoffs
Air Canada is making adjustments to its services at various airports in the Newfoundland and Labrador provinces in Canada. The company is switching service providers at Gander, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Deer Lake locations, and will be switching from Jazz Aviation to PAL Airlines. The change in service providers at these airports is due to changes in Air Canada's operating schedule, and the airline decided that PAL Airlines would be a better fit. PAL Airlines will increase Air Canada’s regional operations, while Jazz Aviation will continue to operate in Atlantic Canada. The change in service providers will be accompanied by over 50 job cuts, and many workers will unexpectedly be laid off. Unifor, the union that represents these workers, is working to file labor grievances and labor standards regulation violations against Air Canada due to the unforeseen layoffs.
