Aer Lingus staff strikes suspended
Irish airline Aer Lingus and labor unions reached a tentative deal last night, preventing the immediate threat of a strike. The agreement would prevent some outsourcing of jobs as well as maintain the Shannon ground handling base, but it also demands steep concessions from workers. Workers would be offered voluntary severance pay at a reduced rate, and new employee wages and benefits would decrease significantly. Other terms include fleet and headquarter downsizing. In light of these measures, union officials are concerned over membership approval.
