AFL-CIO divided on endorsement
The AFL-CIO executive council was voted against endorsing any single Democratic party presidential candidate Wednesday after it was unable to reach any clear consensus on a favored candidate. The vote gives the green light to member unions to individually endorse candidates, representing a possible split in nationwide union support during the primaries. The executive council's decision came in the wake of a spirited debate between Democratic candidates at Soldier Field in Chicago a day earlier, sponsored by the union.
