AFSCME vs. University of California: Show AFSCME the money
Talks between service workers, represented by AFSCME, and the University of California remain at a standstill over workers' demands for a large wage boost. The workers' case has been bolstered by the report of an independent fact finder, who demonstrated that UC workers are paid 25 percent less than service workers at other California community colleges, and that the University indeed has the money to pay workers more competitive wages. The fact finder has recommended that the University establish a $12 "bottom-rung" wage for new hires and step up veteran workers wages accordingly, while school officials have proposed a more limited 4-15% increase.
