Attendees at the Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor conference, or COCAL, are discussing long-term strategies in their efforts to win contracts for adjunct and part-time professors. While much of the focus of discussions have involved how to organize adjuncts, including a willingness to strike for bargaining recognition, yesterday talks centered on what to do after adjuncts had won their first contract, including fostering member engagement and developing into a force that can influence improving higher education overall, as well as their working conditions.
