AI is leading to thousands of job losses, report finds
A new report shows that artificial intelligence has contributed to over 10,000 job losses in the U.S. so far in 2025, making it one of the top five causes of layoffs this year. Overall, companies have announced more than 806,000 job cuts through July — the highest total since 2020 — with the tech industry hit especially hard. AI-related layoffs have particularly affected entry-level positions and new graduates, as job postings for those roles decline. At the same time, budget cuts tied to Elon Musk’s federal cost-cutting initiative and rising tariffs are driving additional layoffs in government, healthcare, and retail.
