Air Canada pilots call off strike action after the Air Line Pilots Association and Air Canada reach tentative agreement
Air Canada pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association called off planned strike action after the Air Line Pilots Association and Air Canada management were able to reach a tentative agreement. The strike action would have disrupted thousands of passengers and resulted in flight delays and cancellations. The tentative contract will increase worker pay and benefits by around $1.4 million over the next four years. Negotiations between the two parties began over a year ago, and the parties had a difficult time reaching an agreement on salaries, worker compensation, and work regulations, and a federal mediator became involved and helped the parties reach a tentative contract. Increasing wages was a key issue for the pilots, and the union demanded higher wages to match the pay of pilots in the United States.
