Air Canada to Suspend Flights as Flight Attendants’ Union Issues Strike Notice
Flight attendants at Air Canada and its Rouge subsidiary plan to strike as early as Saturday after contract negotiations broke down. The Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing about 10,000 workers, says the airline has stopped serious talks on wages and benefits, while the company calls union demands “exorbitant” and is pushing for binding arbitration. Air Canada’s latest offer includes a 38% pay increase over four years, which the union says doesn’t keep pace with inflation. A walkout could disrupt nearly 200 daily U.S. flights and a third of Canada’s passenger market.
