Airport screeners need runoff vote to choose union
In the largest union election for federal workers, airport screeners will have to vote again to find out which union will represent them. While a large majority of screeners voted for a union, the vote was split between the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union. Neither union got the required majority needed to represent the workers. A runoff election will begin next month and is expected to end in June. Both unions say that they are confident in their chances, and praised screeners for voting to unionize. The vote came after the head of the Transportation Security Administration reversed years of policy and said that screeners would be allowed limited collective bargaining rights.
