Alcoa Italy workers clash with police over jobs
Italian workers at aluminium producer Alcoa protested on Monday against a plant's closure. The workers attempted to push through a police blockade into a meeting where government officials, labor leaders and the company were attempting to find a solution to the plant;s closure. The plant employs about 1,500 workers, in an area where the unemployment rate is about 15%. The company agreed to slow down the closure of the plant, and that it would be open to offers to buy the plant.
