Amazon delivery drivers may increase union organization efforts after UPS successfully raises wages in new contract
A new agreement between UPS and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union will increase wages for delivery drivers, and Amazon is the next company that should be prepared for potential pay negotiations with delivery drivers. Amazon drivers deliver around half of all Amazon packages, while UPS delivers the rest of the Amazon packages. Amazon workers make $19/hour, while UPS drivers of senior level earn $49/hour under the new union contract. If Amazon workers successfully organize, drivers would be paid similar wages as UPS workers. It will be a challenge for Amazon delivery drivers to successfully organize, as delivery drivers are not employees of Amazon, but rather employees of small businesses that rent Amazon vans and employ drivers.
