Amazon Employees Vote to Reject Union
The union certification vote in Amazon?s Middletown, Delaware fulfillment center took place yesterday. The vote failed as 21 of the 27 technicians who would have been represented by the IAM voted against certification. The IAM states that vote was influenced strongly by the management tactics of both Amazon and the law firm Amazon hired. The vote was the first union certification vote in the US, although Amazon has experience with represented workers in other parts of the world. An Amazon spokesperson said that the vote made it clear that the employees did not want ?third-party representation?. The news of the vote?s outcome comes immediately after 1,000 Amazon workers in Germany released a petition opposing their union, Ver.di?s, targeting of Amazon with work stoppages and demonstrations at fulfillment centers.
