Amazon Pushes for In-Person Voting in Landmark Union Drive
Pending its upcoming union drive, Amazon is continually pushing for an in person vote rather than a vote by mail. Due to Covid-19 concerns, Amazon's push for an in person vote is quite concerning. The company is appealing against a ruling by a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) officer to permit 5,800 employees at Amazon’s warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, to begin casting mail-in ballots for the to be represented by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. Traditionally, The NLRB has favored in person election, however the pandemic has forced the agency to support mail-in ballots. Between March and November 2020, 90% of union election representation cases presided by the NLRB were conducted by mail rather than in-person.
