American Airlines Pilot Union Prepares to Take Strike Vote
The Allied Pilots Association, which represents 10,000 American Airlines pilots, says that they will begin a strike vote against the company's imposition of contract terms. Pilots rejected the airline's last contract offer on August 8. The company filed for bankruptcy last year, and has pointed to labor costs as the reason why. The airline has asked a bankruptcy court judge to throw out its contract with the pilots and allow the company to impose its own terms. The judge denied the initial request on August 15, and is expected to rule on an amended request by September 4. Flight attendants and ground workers have accepted contract offers from the company.
