American and its unions show little progress
American Airlines says that proposals by its unions will not meet the savings that the company needs. The airline, whose parent company filed for bankruptcy in November wants to significantly cut labor costs. The two sides began bargaining again last week. The airline wants to cut 13,000 jobs, as well as pension and health benefits. They say that they want the unions to be part of a collaborative solution. The unions say that the company did not take their proposals seriously, and that they are trying to save jobs for their members.
