Amidst mass layoffs, workers who have not been laid-off struggle with survivor guilt and anxieties in the workplace
As mass layoffs have been sweeping the US tech industry, this has impacted both the affected workers and the remaining ones. For workers who have not been laid off, some have been struggling with "survivor layoff guilt," or feeling guilty for maintaining their jobs while their coworkers have lost their financial security. Additionally, when employers do not disclose the reasoning behind layoff decisions, this can create an anxious workplace environment and distrust in the company which can negatively impact productivity and job performance. As a result, better outcomes are generally seen when companies prepare their workforces for layoffs and communicate openly.
