Aramark employees at major stadiums in Philadelphia take strike action
Hundreds of stadium workers in the Philadelphia area are on strike and have been participating in strike action since Monday. Employees at Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, and Citizens Bank Park, the three major stadiums in Philadelphia, are all on strike, demanding higher wages and better healthcare benefits. Workers are represented by the Unite Here union, and the union has called for fans to boycott food and drinks in the stadiums. Aramark, the food service and facilities company that serves concessions in all three stadiums, has been in negotiations with the Unite Here union for the past few months, but the two parties have not reached a contract agreement. The union is seeking to aggregate worker hours at the three stadiums , which would allow more workers to qualify for healthcare benefits. Currently, worker hours at the stadiums are separately counted, so employees may work enough total hours to receive healthcare benefits, but since the hours are spread between the stadiums they do not have these benefits.
