Arbitration Points to 10% Raise for City Police
There is a strong indication that an arbitration panel will award New York City police officers a 10 percent raise over two years, far higher than the Bloomberg administration wanted. The pay raise is likely to affect the other city unions, including teachers, who are currently in arbitration over their contract impasse. The increase is considered a major break from the pattern set by the mayor's previous negotiations with city unions. The Bloomberg administration had argued that the city's 22,000 officers should receive no more than the 5 percent raise over three years given to District Council 37, the city's largest union.
