Argentina government, unions agree on deal to boost car production
After months of negotiation, Argentina has reached an agreement with labor unions to increase auto production to one million per year, which should create 30,000 jobs. The pact will expire in 2023. Since 2011, production has drastically decreased from 828,771 to 472,776 cars in 2016. Meanwhile, Argentinian companies are reluctant to invest in production due to the current high labor costs. Although President Macri has attempted to decrease labor costs, to some success, the union bosses who are politically opposed to Macri's party are willing to picket and strike against his initiatives.
