Argentina's First National Strike Pressures Fernandez on Tax
Argentine unions held a national strike against the government on Thursday, in response to low growth and high inflation. The CGT, the country's largest labor federation, asked workers to strike to pressure the government into changing tax brackets for workers. The government has rejected the demand, saying only a small number of workers pay a higher tax rate. The strike comes one week after a truck drivers' strike caused national fuel shortages, as well as during a strike by oil workers that is affecting output. Projections for the economy have growth slowing.
