Argentine grain workers strike, exports unaffected
A two-day strike of Argentine grain workers began on Monday, with workers demanding higher wages and better working conditions. A union leader says that the strike should not effect grain exports because they knew about the strike and should have reserves. The striking workers are part of the URGARA union, which represents grain quality inspectors. The union says that exporters have been profiting from an increase in grain prices, and that some of the profit should go to the workers. High inflation in Argentina has led to an increase in the number of labor disputes and strikes, including teachers and truck drivers.
