Arizona Coyotes under investigation for alleged labor law violations
Over the last 13 months, the Arizona Coyotes have been the subject of two investigations by the NLRB after unfair labor practice complaints were filed. The first investigation was prompted after a former employee claimed that the team created a hostile workplace environment and threatened staff if they engaged in union organizing. The employee was fired after complaining that the team failed to properly compensate workers. The investigation ended when the complaint was withdrawn after both sides settled on an agreement in 2016. Details of the settlement were not released, but the Coyotes admitted no fault for the allegations. The second investigation began when another former employee filed an NLRB complaint in addition to a US District Court lawsuit, claiming that the team failed to adhere to federal overtime regulations. A settlement on this issue was reached in September, but its contents were also undisclosed. The NLRB is still investigating the second complaint, and a hearing is set for January 9.
