Arts majors jump ahead of tech grads in landing jobs
A Georgetown University study found that the unemployment rate for recent grads with drama and theater degrees is two times less than those with degrees in information systems. The study pooled employment data about recent college grads from the U.S. Census Bureau?s American Community Survey; finding the jobless rate for theater majors to be 6.4% versus 14.7% for IT majors. Author of the study Anthony Carnevale attributed the surprising findings to the recession that ended in 2009, explaining that IT jobs are inherently cyclical and therefore more sensitive to economic downturn.
