As economy slows and job market cools, bargaining power begins to shift away from workers
While many businesses are still struggling with labor shortages, economic trends have indicated a cooling job market and stoked growing fears of a recession. As a result, bargaining power dynamics are beginning to shift back in favor of employers rather than workers. Since September, many companies have used this leverage to bring workers back in person, and some are using return-to-office mandates in lieu of layoffs to reduce their workforces. Further evidence of changing labor dynamics is evident from the decrease in remote job position offerings alongside fewer demands from workers for remote work options.
