As the US workforce grows older and increasingly more racially diverse, companies must reevaluate their DEI initiatives
In recent decades, there has been a shift in the demographics of the US labor force. Compared to the 1970s, there is much greater diversity in the United States, and a larger share of the working population is nonwhite and over the age of 55. These trends are expected to continue, which will likely require companies to continue to build upon their diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to attract and retain workers. However, it has been suggested that the existing DEI strategies, such as mandatory trainings and skills tests, must be reevaluated and upgraded in order to be successful. This may include "upskilling" companies' workforces, increasing recruiting at historically Black colleges, and introducing phased-out retirement options.
