Atlanta church accused of labor trafficking in lawsuit
A federal lawsuit accuses the Atlanta Dream Center Church of labor trafficking, alleging that a woman referred to as K.D. was recruited under the promise of ministry education but instead performed years of unpaid labor. The complaint claims she was brought in through the affiliated Atlanta School of Ministry and was required to work 12 to 14-hour shifts with no compensation, under the impression that her work would cover tuition and housing. The suit also describes poor living conditions, including overcrowded housing and expired food, and states that attempts to leave were met with pressure and threats. The church, affiliated with the Georgia Assemblies of God, said it is aware of the lawsuit and is taking the allegations seriously. Since the filing, the plaintiff’s attorney says additional individuals have come forward with similar claims.
