ATP announces new program that provides top-ranked tennis players with a set minimum salary
The Association of Tennis Professionals has launched a new program that establishes a set wage that players will be guaranteed if they are ranked in the Top 250 in Singles. The program is named the Baseline Program and will run for three years, and the ATP created the program to provide career stability to top-level tennis players. The funds will cover travel expenses, coach salaries, and physical therapy and recovery. The program tiers minimum salary based on a player’s rank, and players in the Top 100 will have a minimum wage of $300,000, while lower ranked players will have a set wage of $75,000-$150,000 depending on which tier they belong to. ATP expects to provide funds for 30 to 45 players, with many of them being lower-ranked players who heavily depend on tournament winnings to cover their expenses.
