AT&T Mobility Must Dial Back Workplace Privacy Rule
An NLRB administrative law judge stated that AT&T must fix an overly broad privacy rule. Currently, the rule prohibits the recording of any conversations or telephone calls. While important for customer privacy, the judge determined that the rule as it reads now steps on employee’s labor law rights. The overbroad rule was exposed when a steward for CWA Local 2336 was reprimanded for secretly recording a meeting where AT&T management terminated an employee. The ALJ suggested that the privacy rule make the prohibition specific to recording customer’s conversations.
