Auto suppliers lobbying Congress today for loans
Auto and truck suppliers met with 40 members of Congress from across the United States Friday to lobby for $25 billion in funding to protect jobs. Auto parts suppliers employ nearly 800,000 jobs in the US and contribute to some 4 and a half million. The Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association say the loans were authorized last year, now they seek the appropriations. Many representatives, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are confident that the loans will be authorized before Congress adjourns next week, possibly as part of a large billing funding continuing government operations. The governors of 10 states have sent letters to Congress following meetings with the Association, recommending that Congress funds the loans.
