Automation increases technology skills gap
Automation is increasingly altering the workplace, leaving many concerned about the growing skills gap. The UK's Office of National Statistics estimates that 1.5 million jobs will be automated over the next few years, and by 2030 800 million jobs may be gone. The UK government is attempting to manage this issue with the National Retraining Scheme. This is a program dedicated to training employees into skilled professions in order to lessen the technology skills gap. While this is certainly a step forward, it may not be enough as over four million IT security positions remain vacant and the jobs at risk for automation disproportionately impact women and other marginalized demographics.
