Baltimore Sun, union cite pact progress
Labor talks between the management and union officials have made some progress, but issues such as pay and performance remain unresolved. If an agreement is not reached by Wednesday at midnight, the union is threatening a strike. The main issue is that Sun management wants to replace cost-of-living raises with a pay-for-performance system. The union wants 3 percent annual cost-of- living raises. If the workers do go on strike, the Sun management plans to bring in replacement workers.
